For more than 50 years, Labconco has been at the forefront of biosafety innovation. With pioneering ergonomics and technical safety advancements, your safety and comfort have always been our focus.
Today, Labconco offers a complete family of biosafety cabinets designed to support your work. Each is designed to fit your unique applications, and adapt as your work progresses.
Labconco’s first laminar flow biosafety cabinet marked a turning point — shifting focus from chemical fumes to biological hazards. This early design (Big Blue) placed the blower and HEPA filter beneath the work surface, allowing contaminants to be filtered immediately and minimizing the volume of contaminated airflow within the cabinet.
More than a new product, it reflected a deeper understanding: true containment depends on controlling airflow, not just filtering it. That insight helped shape the future of biosafety.
As life science research gained momentum, Labconco transformed its early laminar flow cabinet designs into the Purifier® line. This evolution brought consistency to labs that needed reliable, repeatable performance and established Labconco as a trusted leader in containment.
The introduction of the angled sash changed how scientists interacted with their work. By improving visibility, reducing glare, and allowing a more natural working position, it addressed problems many end users simply had to work around. The angled sash was a small design change with lasting impact — one that quickly became an industry standard and reinforced a simple idea: better ergonomics lead to better science.
With the Purifier® Delta Biosafety Cabinet, Labconco took a human-centered approach to biosafety cabinet design. Working alongside ergonomics experts, our team rethought posture, reach, and repetitive motion — factors that directly affect safety over time. Features like Inclination Technology™ and a curved armrest allowed users to work longer hours with less strain, while improving accessibility. Safety was no longer just about containment — it was about the person at the cabinet.
Importantly, these changes also enabled ADA compliance, making Labconco’s BSCs accessible to a broader range of users. This commitment to inclusive design reflected a broader philosophy: safety must extend to every user.
The Purifier® Logic improved on ergonomics and technology with the first line-of-sight LCD display. Filter life monitoring on the display provided users with a constantly updated filter status. Continuous Airflow Technology (CAP™) used advanced sensors in the blower itself to detect even the slightest change in air resistance as filters loaded or airflow blockages occurred. Simultaneously, the user was alerted to changes in airflow on the LCD display while the blower compensated for detected changes and returned safe airflow to within 2% of setpoint.
Logic+ refined the user experience. Controls became more intuitive, monitoring more accessible, and daily operation more seamless. As biosafety cabinets grew more advanced, Labconco made sure they remained easy to use — because reliable protection depends on systems that work with the user, not against them.
With the introduction of the Axiom® Type C1 Biosafety Cabinet, Labconco redefined the category. For the first time, a biosafety cabinet could safely handle both biological and chemical applications within a single system. Its ability to switch between recirculating and ducted operation gave labs unprecedented flexibility, while innovations like the Chem-Zone™ and Active Protection Protocol™ ensured containment — even when conditions weren’t ideal. It wasn’t just an improvement. It was a new way to think about biosafety.
As labs embraced automation and larger benchtop instruments, containment needed to evolve. The Logic® Vue extended biosafety beyond traditional applications, providing a spacious, accessible environment for complex equipment. It allowed researchers to integrate advanced tools without sacrificing protection — supporting the next generation of laboratory workflows.
The redesign of the Logic® Biosafety Cabinet introduced a true internal touchscreen and energy-saving BalanceFlow™ plenum to Labconco’s most advanced BSC. With a full touchscreen inside the work area, users and certifiers have ultimate control of BSC functions and operations literally at the tip of their fingers, making controlling the BSC intuitive and a breeze. The redesign of the plenum significantly reduced internal air resistance, resulting in a BSC that uses less energy, runs quieter and cooler, and extends filter life by 25%.
The 8' Logic joined the trusted Logic line with an expansive 99" interior width and a 400 lb work surface capacity. Ideal for integrating automated cell culture instruments and liquid handlers, or comfortably supporting two users.
The Prism™ Biosafety Cabinet joins the Labconco BSC family, marking 50 years of BSC innovations with a streamlined design. The Prism is designed for academic users with basic cell culture needs. Incorporating essential features and technology while remaining accessible to the needs of modern labs. Labconco’s full family of BSCs offers something for every user and the flexibility to meet unique situations.
Biosafety cabinets have evolved, but the mission remains the same: protect people, preserve research, and support discovery. The next generation of innovations will likely build on the same principles that have guided Labconco for the past 50 years: combining scientific rigor with engineering creativity to create safer, smarter, and more effective laboratory environments.
